Building Skills and Serving the Community: Our Hauling Program

What began as a grant-funded pilot program has grown into a meaningful opportunity for adults with developmental disabilities to gain work experience while making a visible impact in the community. Based in Rohnert Park and serving Sonoma County, our hauling program was designed to offer hands-on job training in a supportive environment, and it has done just that, empowering participants to take on real responsibilities and develop valuable skills.

The program provides eco-friendly hauling and cleanup services, helping local residents and businesses remove unwanted items in a responsible way. From lifting and sorting to organizing and recycling, every task is carried out by a team of dedicated individuals who take pride in their work. With support from job coaches, each participant is encouraged to work at their own pace while contributing to a shared goal.

Beyond the practical skills, the hauling program has given participants a strong sense of purpose and confidence. It’s not just about removing clutter—it’s about building connections, learning teamwork, and proving that everyone has something valuable to offer. We are proud of how far the program has come and are excited to continue expanding it to serve even more people and provide new opportunities for growth.

Recycling with Purpose: Creating Opportunity Through Community Involvement

Our recycling program began as a grant-funded initiative with a simple but powerful goal: to provide adults with developmental disabilities meaningful opportunities to engage with the community while building practical job skills. What started as a small effort to collect and sort recyclables has grown into a dynamic program that promotes environmental responsibility and personal development.

Based in Rohnert Park and servicing Sonoma County, participants in the program work together to collect, separate, and process recyclable materials from local businesses and items dropped off at our site. With guidance from staff, each individual learns skills like organization, time management, and teamwork—skills that are not only useful on the job but also in daily life. The program also offers regular opportunities for social interaction and connection, helping to reduce isolation and boost confidence.

The impact goes far beyond bottles and cans. For our participants, recycling is a way to be seen, contribute, and take pride in a job well done. For the community, it’s a reminder that inclusion benefits everyone. As we look to the future, we’re excited to continue growing this program and exploring new ways for our clients to be active, valued members of the community.
